This project was developed by the City of Atlanta with the purpose of calming traffic through Lindbergh Dr. and nearby streets. The project consisted on demolishing and installing new sidewalks, curbs, crosswalks, landscaping, and handicapped ramps among other things. Demolition of old concrete followed by excavation and filling with a mixture of surge stone and soil were necessary to prepare the site for the construction of the sidewalks in order to assure compliance with technical design specifications.
One of the most interesting features of this project was the implementation of decorative concrete on a 2,800 square feet area at the intersection of Peachtree Hills Avenue and Virginia Place with a stone texture, geometric engraved designs, and terra-cotta colors. The stamped concrete also included 12,000 square feet of crosswalks, 7,000 square feet of sidewalks, and 6,500 square feet of crossings stamped with brick and slate patterns.
For the accomplishment of this project it was important to consider the impact the project would have on the community considering that it is located at a residential area. Constant feedback from the members of the community was necessary in order to minimize the impact of the project on the residents’ normal activities.
